Major highlights include; Meeting the Nokhuri people in the Kopetdag mountain valley, exploring the canyons of Yangy Kala, discovering the Karakum desert and the Darvaza gas craters, and enjoying the modern Caspian Sea resort in Avaza - as well as fascinating Ashgabat!



Day 1: March 20 (UNESCO Sites)       


  1. Pickup from Ashgabat Airport

  2. Sightseeing in Ashgabat, visiting the parks and squares of the capital, Ertogrul Ghazi mosque, the archeological site “Nisa” (The ruins have mud brick remains of fortifications and palaces, temples, ceremony hall, treasury building

    1. It covers the remains of Parthian civilization, what combined the traditional art and culture with Hellenistic and Roman elements

    2. The richly decorated architecture of religious, royal power and ordinary domestic functions had been revealed as the result of archeological excavations, starting from beginning of 20th century and continue until today 

    3. Nisa or Parthaunisa, presumed to be the first capital of Parthians, are an ancient people who lived along the Kopet Dag mountain range (modern Turkmenistan and Iran).

    4. According to UNESCO, Nisa played the role of an important barrier against the Roman Empire expansion to the west, and acting as the communication and trading centre between east and west, between central Asian and Mediterranean cultures

  4. Return to Ashgabat

Day 2: March 21 (Nowruz Festivities)        


  1. Visit the Novruz festivity village, 15 km to the west of Ashgabat and participate in Turkmen Novruz events

    1. This day is official opening and the time to visit can depend on the official schedule of the event

    2. Given that Turkmen government will be visiting the event there will be certain regulations regarding transport to enter the area

    3. Please consider the possibility that we leave our transport on the road and walk to site on foot

    4. You will experience Turkmen culture through contact with local people

  2. Visit a yurt, see its interior, see how Turkmen bread in tamdyr (oven) is cooked. We discover national dish recipes, local styles of preparing, cooking and serving national dishes

  3. Visitors see the girls making embroidery, alaja (two coloured twined ropes), dancing and listening to the singing of Turkmen bagshy (singer) dressed in national Turkmen dress with traditional musical instruments such as the dutar and gyjak

  4. See Turkmen carpets

  5. Return back in Ashgabat in the evening

  6. Free program

Day 3: March 22 (Ashgabat- Nokhur)


  1. Drive to the Kopetdag mountains

  2. Discover on the way Kov Ata cave lake & Ahal Teke private horse farm

    1. Experts say the Akhal-Teke breed is at least 3,000 years old, may be the last remaining strain of the Turkoman. A breed of horse that has existed since 2400 B.C.

    2. In the Middle Ages (500 to 1500 A.D.), Akhal-Tekes lived with nomadic tribesmen near the Kopet Dag Mountains in Turkmenistan

    3. The nomads treated the horses as part of their families, tethering them near their shelters. In the early 1900s, Russians used Akhal-Tekes as cavalry horses

    4. Today they excel in sport, particularly in racing, show jumping, dressage and endurance racing. The Akhal-Teke breed has preserved type, purity and performance abilities of its ancestors into modern times thanks to the geographically isolated area of the harsh Kara Kum desert where the horses have been bred by the Akhal-Teke tribe since ancient times

  3. Drive to te Kope Dag mountains

  4. Arrive at Nohur village

  5. Cultural exchange with Nohuri people (one of the Turkmen tribes)

  6. Enjoy with beauty of the mountains

  7. Homestay with local family


Day 4: March 23 (Nokhur – Balkanabat)


  1. Continue sightseeing in Nohur

  2. Drive to Balkanabat

  3. Visit Parau Bibi pilgrim site along the route

  4. Arrive at Balkanabat

  5. Check into hotel 

  6. Time for leisure

  7. Overnight at hotel


Day 5: March 24 (Balkanabat- Yangy Kala- Turkmenbashy)


  1. Drive to Yangy Kala

    1. The south eastern bordering area of Gara Bogaz Gol bay, it has spectacular view of the former sea bed, and millions of years work by natural forces to form the canyons in its unusual shapes and variety of colors 

  2. Arrive and discover the Yangy Kala canyons

  3. Return to Turkmenbashy

  4. Check into hotel

  5. Stay in Avaza (Turkmen Caspian Sea resort)

  6. Time for leisure at the Caspian Sea

  7. Overnight at the resort


Day 6: March 25 (Turkmenbashy- Ashgabat- Darvaza)


  1. Flight to Ashgabat

  2. Arrive at the capital

  3. Drive to Darvaza

  4. Visit Yerbent village along the route

  5. Arrive & start to visit gas craters

  6. Venture in the desert and arrive at the Darvaza fire gas crater ('Gates to Hell')

  7. See it after sunset

  8. Camping

  9. Overnight in tent


Day 7: March 26 (Darvaza- Ashgabat)


  1. Drive back to Ashgabat

  2. Visit Tolkuchka bazaar before Ashgabat

  3. Arrive and check into hotel

  4. Free time

  5. Overnight at hotel


Day 8: March 27(Ashgabat - Airport)


  1. Transfer to airport as per flight time

  2. End of program
