Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh): 4-Day Tour

Day  1: Lake Sevan and Northern Artsakh (L/D)

 

  1. We’ll depart early from Yerevan and head to Lake Sevan, 

    1. Making a few stops along the coast, including a visit to an ancient monastery, and a tasting of locally produced cheeses and a typical countryside lunch 

  2. Next we’ll journey to mountainous Karvachar, the most scenic region of Artsakh 

  3. As we move onward, we’ll charge the medieval fortress of Andaberd, then bathe in the hot springs of a wild gorge 

  4. At the end of the day, we’ll enjoy dinner 

  5. The night will be spent at the house of a local skilled craftsman and our good friend, Martiros Chalumyan

 

Day  2: Shrines of Artsakh (B/L/D)

 

  1. Another early morning departure—We’ll continue our trip into the picturesque gorge of the Tartar River

  2. We will stop at the monastery of Dadivank, an ancient Christian shrine of Eastern Armenia

  3. Next we’ll drive along a scenic highway that runs through thick Artsakh forests 

  4. Around midday, we’ll visit an eclectic village called Vank, then take a short climb up to the monastery of Gandzasar 

  5. We’ll have lunch at the house-museum of a 20th century local war hero 

  6. After lunch, we will head to the capital and check into a guest house 

  7. Once in Stepanakert, we’ll walk through the gorge of the Karkar River to an abandoned village of millers 

  8. There, we’ll swim under waterfalls before returning to the guest house for dinner and a tasting of wine and vodka 

    1. Our host will be a genuine winemaker-cum-alchemist.

 

Day 3: Old Capital and Mountainous Sunik (B/L)

 

  1. Before noon, we’ll visit the old capital of Artsakh, the Shushi stronghold, with charming  locals as our guides

  2. We’ll tour the old quarters and fortress walls of the city, and even visit the local rug museum

  3. Lunch will be enjoyed at a restaurant with a breathtaking view of the valley 

  4. After lunch, we will leave Artsakh via the Lachin strip which was fiercely fought for 

  5. Along the way we’ll explore the famous cave-city of Khndzoresk, and take the longest single-span aerial tramway in the world to the medieval monastery of Tatev 

  6. We’ll spend the night at a hotel in a town named Goris


 

Day 4: Wine Lands and the Ararat Valley (B/L)

 

  1. After a countryside breakfast, we’ll head west 

  2. On the way, we’ll stop at Karahunj, a megalithic and ancient observatory 

  3. Next, we’ll descend into the winemaking region of Areni, where we’ll walk through a red-cliffed canyon towards the medieval monastery of Noravank 

  4. There, we’ll enjoy a homemade lunch in a cave tavern before descending further into the Ararat Valley 

  5. In the afternoon, we will visit Khor-Virap Monastery, a prominent Christian shrine that offers a classic view of Mt. Ararat 

  6. After gazing upon the mountain, we’ll return to Yerevan in the evening

  7. Tour ends in Yerevan

  • English–speaking guide services for the whole trip (In case if the group will be up to 3 participants, the driver will be a guide as well)
